Our Family of Health Centers
Caring for Your Family’s Healthcare Needs

Carolina Health Centers, Inc. (CHC) is a private non-profit corporation serving the healthcare needs of the residents of a seven-county area of West-Central South Carolina. These counties are Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Abbeville, Saluda, Edgefield, and Newberry.

CHC (formerly MEGALS Rural Health Association) was formed by a group of interested citizens and became chartered in South Carolina in June of 1977. The corporation began providing health and dental services in McCormick, Saluda, and Ware Shoals in 1980. Over the years the corporation has grown to its current size and is now providing services in ten locations throughout the service area.

CHC is the designated “Community and Migrant Health Center” serving the seven-county area noted above. Its mission is to provide quality healthcare to all residents of the area, with emphasis on the uninsured and underinsured. Our Mission Statement is “Our Family of Health Centers Caring for Your Family’s Healthcare Needs.”

CHC is probably best described as a primary care group practice. We currently operate seven family practice centers, a large pediatric practice, a dental practice, and a school-based practice. CHC also owns and operates a well-equipped mobile medical unit which is used at health fairs, industrial sites, churches, schools and many other community functions. Our pharmacy provides Carolina Health Center patients with medications at reduced prices.

CHC has a staff of over twenty healthcare providers which includes family practice physicians, pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and a dentist. Appropriate support staff are available to assist these providers at each CHC location.

CHC locations accept Medicaid, Medicare and most private insurances. Our centers also offer a sliding fee discount program for eligible low income families.
