Carolina Health Centers’ offices are open and serving patients. Many of our sites have adjusted scheduling to care for well patients in the mornings (after a thorough cleaning the evening before) and sick patients in the afternoons. Many of our sites are also integrating a curbside triage system to help eliminate patient exposure to anything unfavorable. We ask that patients with fever, cough, and shortness of breath call our office before arriving so that we may better care for them.
Carolina Community Pharmacies:
In order to protect our customers and staff, we are limiting our pharmacies to drive-through only traffic. We feel this is a responsible decision based on the federal guidelines regarding social distancing. We want to be able to continue serving our customers and meeting their needs, but we do not feel it is in their best interest or the interest of our staff to have them come inside the store. We are exploring a number of alternative options to provide services outside and will keep everyone informed as options become available. Importantly, we are completely operational and are happy to help you in any way we can via our drive-through windows.
Carolina Health Centers’ COVID-19 Response Team is meeting regularly and monitoring the rapidly-changing environment closely. Our goal is to be open and available to care for all of our patients while also protecting our employees and their families. In order to better care for the sick and protect the well, we have made some modifications to our processes and procedures.
We are encouraging patients who feel they may have been exposed to or have symptoms of COVID-19 to call ahead of coming to or entering the office. Patients will be asked a series of screening questions to determine whether or not they meet the requirements to be tested. Due to a limited supply of testing materials, we can only test patients who are at the highest risk.
Carolina Health Centers is actively working to help ensure the safety and well-being of our staff and patients with regards to COVID-19 (coronavirus). We are here to care for all of our patients, including those who are or may be sick from COVID-19. We also have a responsibility to protect those who have not been infected. Our internal COVID-19 Response Team is communicating with federal, state, and local agencies to ensure we are prepared and able to respond in an appropriate manner as needed.
If you feel you have been exposed to or have possibly contracted COVID-19, call your primary care office before coming in. This will allow our staff to evaluate you over the phone and determine whether you need to come in to the office. If it is after hours or we are unable to respond to your call quickly due to high call volume, please contact the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) using the information provided. MUSC is providing free telehealth coronavirus screenings to all South Carolinians. If you think you have symptoms, you can visit http://MUSC.care and be screened without having to leave your home. Carolina Health Centers has the ability to test for coronavirus, but will only be able to test individuals who meet very specific criteria defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Results take 3-4 days to return.
The best ways to prevent spread and protect yourself are to:
Avoid those who are sick
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
